Where does one find the inspiration to craft Long Island’s coolest coffee? For Founder, Christopher Vetter, it was by serving as frontman for a touring punk/harcore band! While on tour, Chris (a native Long Islander), made it his mission to frequent the best local baristas throughout the world. But it was a fortuitous trip through Central and South America that ultimately sparked the desire to cultivate his knowledge about coffee beans. Armed with the globe’s secrets and time crafted methods, Chris began experimenting with his own blends and premium roasts. And in 2015 he officially launched “Sail Away” with his now perfected “Captain’s Blend” roast and signature cold brew iced coffees. The brand “Sail Away,” came about this time through a more conventional source of inspiration: A Mark Twain quote, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.” In only just a few short years, “Sail Away” has indeed thrown off the bowlines to become a mainstay on Long Island and has already begun to sail far beyond. Despite their skyrocketing popularity the company still brews, bottles, cans and kegs their cold brew iced coffee and nitro cold brew cans out of their headquarters in Deer Park. And we’re all happy that they’ve stayed close to port.
